The Pittsburgh Steelers and the National Football League lost a piece of its heart and soul today with the death of Dan Rooney.  Rooney who inherited the team after the death of his father Art, was chairman and president of the Steelers from 1975 until 2002.

In addition the "Rooney Rule" which mandated that at least one minority candidate would be interviewed for head coaching and senior football positions is a lasting testament to his ideals of fairness and inclusiveness.

In 2000 he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.  And under President Barack Obama he was the United States ambassador to Ireland from 2009-2012.

Many words will be said about Rooney.  Just glance at the Twitter pages of present and past Steelers.

Here we will just show images.
