Cold, Hard Football Facts Jets beat reporter

Nothing strikes fear into the heart of a defense like the name Luke McCown (insert laugh track here). McCown is a journey man with a career QB rating of 76.2. That was aided by his game last week in which his rating was 91.5. But the real answers to this QB battle are found in the CHFF Real Passing Yards per Attempt stats. New York Jets QB Mark Sanchez enjoys a slight edge in yards per attempt (6.56 - 6.15), ranking them 17 and 19 on the list. In reality this gap is larger due to the fact that McCown was facing a revamped Tennessee Titans team still reeling from RB Chris Johnson's hold out.

The Jets will most assuredly focus on stopping RB Maurice Jones-Drew. Jones-Drew's performance last week of 97 yards and 1 TD, helped propel the Jaguars into the top 10 in our Offensive Hog Index. He is always a tuff stop for any team and has been historically so for the Jets.

New York Head Coach Rex Ryan is definitely aware of this and will make it his mission to force McCown to beat them. This is normally a laughing matter (reference laugh track inserted earlier), but the "Cromartie Resort and Day Spa" seems to be open for business, and may be handing out coupons to QB's with no chance of making it to the Hall Of Fame. McCown has a reason to smile for the first time in career as he reviews game tape on Antonio Cromartie.

Despite Cromartie's sabotage, the Jets still fulfilled Ryans dreams and made it to the #1 spot on our Defensive Hog Index. Aided mainly by shutting down the Dallas Cowboys run game, the Jets had the best defense last week. Look for them to continue that trend against a substantially less potent Jaguars offense. And if Sanchez is allowed to throw early, he may top his 335 yard, 2 touchdown performance of last week. Wide receiver Santonio Holmes is questionable for this game, so that will definitely affect the Jets offense. If he plays however, look for this to finally be an easy one for the Jets.
